The Secret World of Alex Mack

Characters

Alex: On her first day of junior high, 13-year-old Alex Mack got sprayed with a weird chemical called GC-161. Next thing she knew, Alex could morph into a silver blob, zap electricity from her fingers, and move objects by mind control! Now that Alex is in high school, things have changed. Her sister Annie, who she was finally getting along with, went away to college. On top of that, Alex has not only mastered her powers, but she’s gained a new one, too–the ability to morph other people just by touching them. All she has to do is grab them by the arm, and suddenly… squoosh!

Annie: Annie seems obnoxious sometimes. She’s smart, she’s pretty, and she makes mean jokes about Alex. But if it weren’t for Annie, Alex might be a puddle of goo in a drain somewhere. Annie’s learned a lot since Alex first got her powers and she’s nicer to Alex these days. She’s actually turned into a better sister. Still, science comes first for Annie. She’s totally clueless about normal things, like the fact that she’s a rotten driver. You’d think a genius would know better!

Ray: Ray and Alex have been best friends for years. In fact, Ray’s the only person besides Annie who knows about Alex’s powers, and Alex knows she can count on him to keep the secret. Like Alex, Ray has changed a lot over the years. He still has the same great sense of humor and a new career plan every day, but he’s no little kid anymore. You might say Ray’s done some morphing of his own!

Louis Driscoll: Louis is the new kid who somehow ended up in the middle of Alex and Ray’s friendship. He’s a show-off, but it’s mostly because he’s smart and he’s bored. He’s the kind of guy who has fun at the expense of others and is into playing practical jokes that end up embarrassing people. Maybe Louis acts like he does because he’s an only child. Or maybe it’s because being new takes some adjustment. Whatever the reason, he seems to let his guard down around Ray. Alex knows how to keep Louis in line, though–a few fingertip-zaps never hurt anyone!

Barbara Mack: Alex’s mom is the kind of person who just isn’t happy unless she’s doing something–or several things at once. Barbara’s back in school now. She quit her job working for a public relations company to get a degree in social work. As busy as she is, Barbara’s a good mom who’s very understanding. She sympathizes with Alex, but she thinks that Alex’s problems are all part of the normal growing-up process. She doesn’t realize how many hours Alex has logged in as a silver blob!

George Mack: George Mack is a brilliant scientific researcher, but he’s kind of dopey when it comes to being a dad. He means well, but Alex is a little too emotional for him. When she has a problem, he usually gives her a kiss and sends her to her mom. You’d think George could handle Annie’s problems, which are mostly math- or science-related, but she usually ends up figuring out the solutions on her own. But at least George tries. He’s a good dad who loves his family as much as he loves science. And raising a family in the Mack household is a science in itself!

Danielle Atron: In Paradise Valley, Danielle Atron is queen. She’s CEO of the Paradise Valley Chemical Plant, and she even has a high school named after her! Danielle is smart, beautiful and ambitious. But even this savvy business woman reports to someone. A global corporation (whose identity we’ll never know) is financing Danielle’s prize GC-161 project. If Danielle doesn’t make progress soon, they’ve threatened to withdraw their funding and possibly put Danielle–and the plant–out of business. That’s why Danielle will stop at NOTHING to find the kid who could destroy the future of GC-161.

Vince: THE FOLLOWING CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION IS FOR THE EYES OF PROJECT GC-161 EXECUTIVES ONLY:Vince (no last name is necessary) has been officially fired as Head of Security at the Paradise Valley Chemical Plant.
Current whereabouts: Unknown.
Vince will learn of his termination as soon as Danielle Atron decides to tell him.
